Learning Together!

The grade three classes had a lot of fun working together to create their own catapults! The students researched ideas using their chromebooks, drew out a plan, and then followed instructions to build their catapults. Once the catapults were made, we tested them in the gym by launching paper, marshmallows (big and small size), and cotton balls. Students also measured the distance of each item launched by their catapults. Ask your child about our friendly Olympic competition using our catapults.

I Read, You Read, We Read!

Family Literacy Day - Saturday, January 27th, 2018
Our grade three classes will be snuggling with a 'stuffie' and participating in some special literacy activities together on Thursday, January 25th!   See this blog for some fun reading activities to do with your child on FLD on Saturday:
http://barbarareid.ca/blog/family-literacy-day-2018/

The students read regularly during our Language blocks. We read picture books, chapter books, and online stories. Independent and shared reading is always practiced and encouraged at Good Shepherd. It is important that our students also read regularly at home to further develop their visualization skills, inferring abilities, and overall comprehension.

Early Christmas Fun!

Today, our grade three students joined together as one class and worked on preparing our letters to send off to our Global Read Aloud partners in the United States (Delaware) before the Christmas break!

We had a blast writing introductory letters and sharing our thoughts about the book, the Wild Robot, to our pen pals. Ask your child about some of the questions that they asked their pen pals.

During the week, our grade three students created their very own Nutcrackers using quadrilateral shapes.
Math and Art together = FUN!

Primary Joy Day:  Tuesday, December 19.

The two grade 3 classes will be combining together for Joy Day. We will be working on our gingerbread houses and crafts and ending with a movie.

A letter was sent home requesting your child bring a small amount of candy to decorate and share for his/her house. The teachers will provide the graham crackers and icing.
If you would like to join us, please let us know Monday in your child's agenda.

Have a Great Weekend!

We have been very busy in grade three. In math, we continue to examine 2D shapes and their attributes.  In language arts, we continue to focus on descriptive writing.  Ask them about the pirate description they were doing this week.

Our Global Read Aloud continues to be a success. We have connected with our counterparts at Lancashire School in Delaware through google hangouts and discussed and shared our thoughts on what has been happening in the Wild Robot.

We have had a wonderful time teaming up as a grade three community to learn and have fun together. Recently, we collaborated to create our own Roz with a goal of adding a special feature to our robot (e.g. making the arms move). We followed up this activity with a reflection sheet where both partners worked together to complete, as well including a description of their robot.  More STEM fun learning to come!

We are learning!

We have been very busy in Mr. Kassabri and Mrs. Rochon's classes. Take a look below to see our learning through pictures.

Using chromebooks for learning. Solving math problems online, reading online, and research reporting/creating Google Slides online!

Working with numbers! We are learning place value and utilizing base ten blocks to assist with our understanding and learning.

We had a chance to explore the soil outside in our school yard. Our scientists were able to inspect and examine soil and what is found within it. We also had a chance to explore the different types of soil that we could find in our yard.

We are thankful for many things. The students had an opportunity to reflect upon what they were thankful for and were then able to create a wonderful Turkey for Thanksgiving.
